Consider and act upon approving an expenditure of $187,000 with Quality Excavation, LLC for the removal and cleanup of accumulated debris at three bridges and creek crossings, including Collins Road at Duck Creek, East Fork Road at Duck Creek, and Long Creek Road at Long Creek.
Staff recommends approval.
These three bridges and creek crossings accumulate debris from upstream waterway tributaries, which collects at the bridge column support beams. To address this ongoing issue, debris removal will be performed on a recurring basis by a third-party contractor.
The Public Works Department lacks both the available manpower and the specialized equipment needed to complete this work efficiently in-house. Engaging a qualified third-party contractor will allow the work to be completed safely and efficiently, while minimizing impacts to the department's ongoing maintenance and operational responsibilities. This will free Public Works staff to remain focused on daily operations and the essential services they provide to the public.
The total estimated financial impact is $187,700.
Funding is proposed from Stormwater Maintenance budget line item 210-5021-53107.
Public Works met with six vendors at the locations, with three who were able to provide pricing.
Public notice of the proposed work will be provided in accordance with applicable Town requirements. Appropriate notifications will be provided to affected stakeholders and the traveling public prior to commencement of work, as necessary.
