Discussion and review of policies related to athletic field use, prioritization, and oversight.
Due to the recent construction and development of new athletic fields, Town Council requested a review of the Town’s current athletic field reservation procedures and field-use prioritization practices, particularly as they relate to practice fields.
This discussion will provide an overview of the current reservation, scheduling, oversight, maintenance, and operational practices associated with Town athletic facilities. Staff will also provide an overview of proposed draft policies related to the use and reservation of athletic fields within the Town. The proposed draft policies are intended to prioritize Sunnyvale residents and Sunnyvale youth sports organizations.
Discussion will also occur regarding potential changes to the reservation and fee structure for the artificial turf fields, including options to prioritize use by Sunnyvale residents and Sunnyvale youth sports organizations and establish practices that promote greater utilization of the facilities by local residents and organizations.
The discussion will also address operational hours for the newly installed artificial turf fields and potential security measures to protect the Town’s investment in these facilities. Proposed security improvements may include additional fencing and access-controlled gates to better manage field access and reduce unauthorized use.
Staff will discuss the development of a fee structure for athletic facility use. Proposed fees will be brought back to Town Council for separate consideration at a later date.
