APPROVAL of a professional services contract exceeding $50,000 between the City of Topeka and Kurtz & buck LLC, for continued representation of the City in a civil lawsuit matter.

 

(Approval will authorize continuation of the contract for professional services. The City Attorney has been notified the fees and expenses will exceed $50,000 and is seeking authorization to continue with the contract.)

VOTING REQUIREMENTS:

Action requires at least (six) 6 votes of the Governing Body.

POLICY ISSUE:

Whether to authorize continuation of the contract for professional services. Pursuant to TMC 3.30.010, all
contracts for professional services exceeding $50,000 must be approved by the Governing Body.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends the Governing Body approve the contract as part of the consent agenda.

BACKGROUND:

The City has entered into an agreement with the law firm to represent the City in the matter of Duncan v. City of Topeka, (Federal District Case No. 25-cv-02700). The City Attorney has been notified the fees and expenses will exceed $50,000 and is seeking authorization to continue with the contract.

Exceeds $50,000
