TO2638 - An Ordinance of the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida; amending Chapter 16, Pensions and Retirement, Article III, entitled Pension Plan, by amending Section 16-219, providing for changes to normal retirement age; adding the eligibility of thirty (30) years of credited service, regardless of age; replacing age fifty-five (55) and thirty (30) years of service to age fifty-five (55) and twenty-five (25) years of service; providing for a savings clause; providing for severability; providing for codification and providing for an effective date

The Director of Human Resources recommends approval of an Ordinance amending the City of Tamarac General Employees’ Pension Plan to change the Normal Retirement Age eligibility effective October 1, 2026. 

The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the City of Tamarac and the Federation of Public Employees (FPE) is anticipated to be approved by the City Commission on October 14, 2026. This agreement includes an amendment to the Normal Retirement Age eligibility under  the General Employees’ Pension Plan.  Currently the Plan’s Normal Retirement Age is the earlier of the first day of the month on which or after which the participant attains age sixty-two (62) or attains age fifty-five (55) and thirty (30) years of vesting credits. During negotiations, the City and the Union agreed to update the Normal Retirement Age to the earlier of either: the first day of the month on which or after which the participant attains age sixty-two (62), the first day of the month on or after which the Participant attains thirty (30) years of Credited Service, regardless of age; or the Participant attains age fifty-five (55) and has accrued twenty-five (25) years of Credited Service effective October 1, 2026.
