REQUESTED MOTION

To adopt Resolution No. 26-71 establishing parking restrictions on Lepak Court.

INTRODUCTION

The Moundsview School District has requested the city restrict on-street parking on Lepak Court. Staff reviewed Lepak Court near Turtle Lake Elementary School and recommends changes to the on-street parking regulations near the crosswalk to the school. State law requires that any changes to regulatory type signs (stop, parking, speed limit, etc.) be ordered by the city council.

DISCUSSION

The City has heard from Mounds View School District regarding issues created by on-street parking. The congestion makes it difficult for drivers to see children in the crosswalk on their way to school. On review, Lepak Court can have parking restricting on both sides of the road, near the crosswalk, to improve visibility. Please refer to the map exhibit on the resolution for the location of the recommended "No Parking" area.

If authorized by the city council, public works will prepare and install appropriate signage.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the city council adopt resolution 26-71 establishing parking restrictions on Lepak Court.
