INTRODUCTION

The Environmental Quality Committee (EQC) will present this year's recipients of the Green Community Awards to be recognized by the mayor and councilmembers.

DISCUSSION

The 2026 Green Community Awards recipients are Tim Pratt, Andrea Green, and Carol Nytroe.

- Tim Pratt planted a native pollinator garden in front of his house and native plants a swale in the yard that absorbs runoff from the house. He installed 22 solar panels on the roof, an EV charger, and a heat pump drier.

- Andrea Green uses several low waste practices such a double rain barrel and backyard compost. They installed rooftop solar panels and planted a small pollinator garden.

- Carol Nytroe transformed her yard into a large native planting after a shade oak tree fell. She has very little turfgrass and has continued to expand the plantings each year. She grows perennials for neighbors and raises monarchs.

All recipients demonstrate the positive impact that can be made in a residential yard in areas of native plants, turfgrass reduction, renewable energy, beneficial electrification, and water conservation.
