Accept quotes for fleet and public vehicle EV charging stations
To accept the quotes from Carbon Day in the total amount of $42,612.00 to purchase fleet and public vehicle EV charging stations.
Staff solicited quotes to purchase two fleet and two public vehicle EV charging stations which will be installed at the community center. City council authorization is required to accept the quotes and purchase the charging stations.
At the August 17 meeting, the council accepted quotes for electrical improvements at the community center required for the installation of fleet and public EV charging stations. The electrical improvements will be completed this fall as part of the community center parking lot improvements and the installation of the chargers are part of the improvements.
Two, dual port, 80-amp public charging stations would be installed in the lower level community center parking lot with the ability to charge up to four vehicles at one time. One, dual port, 50-amp fleet vehicle charging station would be installed in the lower service alley where the community development and engineering/natural resources vehicles park and one, dual port, 50-amp fleet vehicle charging station would be installed in in the upper community center parking lot where the administration vehicles park. A map showing the approximately locations of the proposed chargers is attached at the end of this report. The location of the two existing public EV charging stations located in the upper community center parking lot are also shown for reference.
Staff requested and received quotes from Carbon Day, for charging stations by Chargepoint. Chargepoint maintains one of the largest EV charging networks in the world as well as suppling chargers and associated software to entities like Shoreview for public and fleet vehicles. The cities existing chargers at the community center and Bobby Theisen Park were supplied by Chargepoint. A Chargepoint application allows users to access the public chargers and they are charged a fee for the electricity that is used. The city then receives a payment from Chargepoint. Fees for the city's charging station are set as part of the administrative fee schedule and can be adjusted annually. The fleet chargers will be set up to only allow charging of the cities EV fleet vehicles and will not be available for the public to use.
One quote was received for the two public charging stations for a total cost of $28,666.00 and one quote for the two fleet charging stations for a total cost of $13,946.00. Copies of the quotes are attached at the end of this report. Both quotes include a five year cloud plan and parts and labor warranty. The purchase of the public charging stations would be funded from the community invest fund and the purchase of the fleet chargers from the central garage fund.
It is recommended the city council accept the quotes from Carbon Day in the total amount of $42,612.00 for fleet and public vehicle EV charging stations.
