Agreement for Legal Services - Third Amendment
Adopt a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Rocklin Approving and Authorizing the City Attorney to Execute the Third Amendment to the Agreement for Legal Services with Jones Mayer.
On April 8, 2024, the City entered into a Legal Services Agreement with Jones Mayer (the Firm) for legal services on special legal projects, law enforcement matters, massage business permit issues, general public agency advice, and other legal matters as determined necessary by the City Attorney for assignment to the Firm (the Agreement). Examples of matters that the Firm has been assigned include the above items as well as advising on Police Department Public Records Act (PRA) requests, providing training with the City Attorney on PRA and subpoena compliance, and miscellaneous other safety-related legal issues, among others. The original Agreement authorized legal services up to $60,000. It was amended on October 31, 2025 and April 10, 2026, increasing the maximum compensation payable to $100,000 pursuant to the City Attorney’s authority in Rocklin Municipal Code 3.04.050(B).
The Firm has provided legal services that are nearing the not-to-exceed amount, and the City Attorney anticipates the continued need for the Firm's specialized legal services. Therefore, staff recommends approval of a third contract amendment to authorize an increase of the not-to-exceed amount of the Agreement to $100,000 per fiscal year, subject to the availability of sufficient funds, and to authorize the City Attorney, as the purchasing officer for all contracts for legal services, to execute the third amendment, as reflected in the accompanying resolution.
There is no additional fiscal impact to the General Fund. Sufficient funds are available in the Fiscal Year 2026/27 Operating Budget to support the recommendation.
