Contract with Sir Lines-A-Lot for the Installation of Durable Pavement Markings
Consent Agenda
Authorizing a contract with Sir Lines-A-Lot in the amount of $62,935, and additional work at this contract unit pricing up to the budgeted amount of $75,000, for the installation of durable pavement markings in various locations.
This project involves ongoing maintenance painting of pavement markings. Durable pavement markings typically last five years and are primarily used on high-traffic streets because of the durability and longevity factors associated with the materials used. The pavement markings proposed for this season primarily include the repainting of existing symbols (arrows, bike lane markings, crosswalks, etc.) on portions of Broadway Ave S and 41st St NW.
Three quotes were requested for this work, and two were received. Public Works recommends the Council proceed with an award to the apparent low quotation, and approval of additional work at these contract unit prices up to the budgeted amount of $75,000.
City policy requires Council approval for contracts over $50,000, and competitive bidding for contracts that exceed $150,000. The State of Minnesota requires two quotes for contracts between $25,000 and $175,000.
Two quotes were received for this work, and while the contract amount is $62,935, there is $75,000 budgeted for pavement markings. With the contract being below budget, Public Works intends to work with Sir Lines-A-Lot to continue with additional pavement markings, up to the $75,000 budgeted, at these contract unit prices.
This is a routine maintenance item that occurs as part of ongoing capital improvement.
Funds are allocated for this work in the Annual Bituminous Street Rehabilitation - Project No. J2201 as identified in the Capital Improvement Program.
The contract amount is $62,935, and Public Works intends to work with the contractor to continue installing pavement markings at the contract unit prices, up to the $75,000 allocated for this work to maximize improvements within the budget.
No alternative actions are suggested at this time.
