Action Requested:

Awarding a contract in the amount of $57,056 for installation of an electrical service and lighting within the hoop building being constructed to serve the Parks and Forestry and Public Works Street Maintenance teams.

Report Narrative:

This request is to authorize a contract with Total Electric in the amount of $57,056 to install electrical service and lighting in the previously approved 72' x 64' Britespan fabric hoop building. The building will provide covered material storage for the Parks Forestry Maintenance and Public Works Street Maintenance teams.

The hoop building was not part of the original project scope. During construction, staff identified a need for covered on-site material storage to streamline operations at the East River Campus. The building will house materials such as dirt, gravel, rock, and mulch, protecting them from erosion and weather so they remain ready for use at any time. Adding lighting and electrical outlets will allow Parks and Public Works staff to use the building at all hours without bringing in additional equipment or labor.

A second proposal was solicited from Hunt Electric in the amount of $61,910. The original budget estimate for the hoop building was $400,000. If approved, the total cost of the building, including construction, electrical work, design, building permit, and special inspections, will be $348,641, which is $51,358 under the estimate provided by the architect.

The hoop building will be constructed in October 2026 as part of the Parks and Forestry Relocation Project No. J3069. which constructed the 113,000 SqFt Maintenance Center, which opened in September 2026 to serve the Parks and Forestry and Public Works Street Maintenance teams.
