On July 21, 2026, the City Council approved awarding a construction contract to Vincor Construction, Inc for $121,889.34 for the Aguirre Building Renovation Project. The scope of work involves replacing the countertop, sink, and flooring in the rental building to enhance functionality and aesthetics. The project team encountered unanticipated high humidity levels during moisture testing and unforeseen mold during the demolition work including areas of water damage. The work to address the mold included a mold survey, mold clearance, mold abatement and additional drywall patch repairs.
As noted in the previously approved staff report dated July 21, 2026, staff understood sufficient project funding was available to cover the cost of this additional work. To avoid allowing the mold to remain for an extended period and potentially create a public health hazard, the City Administrator authorized the additional work necessary to address the mold issue. Staff directed the contractor to proceed with the mold abatement and any repairs necessary. Completion of this work abated the mold and maintained a clean, safe and suitable building for continued public use.
