CONSENT AGENDA

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

For several years, the San Benito County Free Library has partnered with First 5 San Benito to support the Talk, Read, Sing Program, an early literacy initiative that encourages parents and caregivers to talk, read, and sing with children from birth to age five.  Research consistently demonstrated that early language exposure and positive interactions with caregivers are critical to healthy development, school-readiness, and long-term literacy success.  The Talk, Read, Sing Program is focused on promoting learning, curiosity, music, movement and exploration to improve the parent-child relationship.

To support this program, Library staff provide weekly Storytime programming at First 5 during the school year.  In addition to Storytime, the Library promotes library services, literacy resources, and early learning materials that encourage families to continue reading and learning at home.  This helps to expand access to early literacy services for families who may not otherwise participate in library programs while helping to support the Library's Family Literacy Program and its mission to promote lifelong learning.  This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is to clearly identify the roles and responsibilities of both the Library and First 5 in supporting the Talk, Read, Sing Program.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no Fiscal Impact by this MOU.
