EXTENSION OF CONTRACT WITH BEST, BEST & KRIEGER FOR LEGAL COUNSEL SERVICES

San Benito LAFCO went through an independent legal counsel selection process over Spring and Summer 2023, ultimately entering into an agreement with Best Best and Krieger, LLP for legal counsel services to generally be provided by Joshua Nelson. The term of the original agreement was for September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2024. On August 8, 2024, the Commission chose to extend the agreement for another two-year period. The agreement may be extended by LAFCO with written notice to Best Best and Krieger for an additional 2-year term. A 2-year extension would expire August 31, 2028. If extended, the hourly rates will be increased according to the practices current rate schedule as attached.
BBK staff have maintained a positive and productive working relationship with San Benito LAFCO and have made all efforts to minimize costs. Staff recommends extending the contract for services for an additional two years.
Approve extension of the contract for legal services with Best Best and Krieger for a two-year term and direct staff to send written communication to Best Best and Krieger with the desire to extend the contract for another 2-year term to expire on August 31, 2028.
