The Planning Commission requested annual training for the September 3, 2026, meeting. This request was made partly in response to the recent Civic Campus discussion; however, the training is not specific to that discussion. The training is also being completed as part of the Commission's annual work plan and in recognition of two new Planning Commissioners who have not yet received the annual training in addition to their initial onboarding with staff. 

Attachments include the anticipated PowerPoint presentation, the 2040 Comprehensive Plan, and the Southeast District Plan. The PowerPoint may be edited prior to the meeting as staff continues to refine the presentation and as questions are received. The presentation also includes a number of speaker notes that provide additional detail beyond what is shown on individual slides.

The staff presentation will provide a general overview of the planning context, roles and responsibilities, application types, meeting procedures, each chapter of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan, and the concepts contained within the Southeast District Plan. Where additional detail is desired regarding the 2040 Comprehensive Plan or Southeast District Plan, Commissioners are encouraged to review the documents directly and, as always, let staff know of any questions.

For the sake of time, some slides may be skipped or not discussed in full during the staff presentation, particularly slides related to application types, meeting procedures, and tips on how to read a site plan. Commissioners are encouraged to review these slides either before or after the training and reach out to staff with any questions that are not addressed during the presentation.
