Wild Coast Trails Association (WCTA) is proposing a public trail system within the Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board's Pony Creek Watershed. The concept includes mountain-bike-focused trails near Joe Ney Slough and family-friendly trails along the Ridgeline for runners and bicyclists.
WCTA is seeking to discuss what role the City may have in a potential partnership.
None required.
Wild Coast Trails Association is a nonprofit organization that plans, funds, builds, and maintains public trails throughout Coos and Curry Counties, including Whiskey Run, Winchester Trails, and Hundred Acre Wood.
The proposed Pony Creek trail system would provide a recreational trail option closer to Coos Bay, North Bend, and Charleston. Currently, the nearest trail system is approximately a 30-minute drive from Coos Bay.
WCTA presented the proposal to the Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board in August 2026 and is continuing discussions regarding the potential use of Water Board property. WCTA intends to pursue grants and private contributions for design and construction and use its staff and volunteers for ongoing maintenance.
Wild Coast Trails Association is not requesting City funding for the project.
