The Bicycle and Pedestrian Fact-Finding Committee has reviewed the 60% design plans for the Front Street Redevelopment Project and will present its thoughts, ideas, and findings to the Parks Commission regarding bicycle and pedestrian circulation, access, safety, and general use within the project area. This input will support the Commission’s discussion and provide City staff with considerations as the project advances toward final design.
If it pleases the Commission, consider the Bicycle and Pedestrian Fact-Finding Committee’s input on the Front Street Redevelopment Project’s 60% design plans and identify any items for City staff to evaluate during final design.
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Fact-Finding Committee’s bylaws, approved by the City Council on November 5, 2024, charge the Committee with researching and presenting information to the Parks Commission regarding bicycle and pedestrian issues affecting the City of Coos Bay. Its duties include providing the perspective of bicyclists and active transportation users on significant public development projects, particularly regarding circulation, access, and general use. The Committee serves solely as a fact-finding body and does not make recommendations or possess direct or implied authority.
Consistent with these duties, City staff has asked the Committee to review the Front Street Redevelopment Project’s 60% design plans (attached). This review provides an opportunity to identify bicycle and pedestrian considerations while the design remains under development. The Committee will share its findings and ideas with the Parks Commission for discussion. Staff will coordinate with the project design team to evaluate input received from the Commission for feasibility and potential incorporation into the final plans.
