Presentation and Discussion Regarding Coos Bay Downtown Association Phased Walking Tour Development

SUMMARY:

Members from the Coos Bay Downtown Association will present a proposed walking tour to be developed in the downtown area, with three distinct locations, and phased implementation.  They are looking for consideration of support for the overall idea, allowing for them to further develop the plan and seek funding.

ACTION REQUESTED:

If it pleases Council, provide consideration of support for proposed downtown walking tour development.

BACKGROUND:

The city of Coos Bay and the Coos Bay Downtown Association (CBDA) have a long history of partnership, together working towards a thriving downtown core.  Through a management agreement with the Urban Renewal Agency, the CBDA provides operation and management of the city's Mainstreet Program.   Additionally, the CBDA hosts the weekly Farmer's Market, April through October each year, along with several summer festivals and seasonal events throughout the year.

With new leadership, and an energetic board, CBDA has a new vision and idea to encourage more downtown visitation, through the development of a walking tour.  Members of CBDA will present the idea and background on idea development, as well as layout the phased approach to complete each of the three distinct locations for visitor amenities to drive foot traffic in and through the downtown area.

BUDGET IMPLICATIONS:

None.
