At the March 4, 2026, Council meeting during public comment, a request was made to add columbariums to the City's existing cemeteries to provide additional options for families. Council discussed the potential change to city code at their May 6, 2026 meeting.
At that meeting, the question of what constraints would define the scope of this potential use was raised. Staff reviewed and determined that any columbarium project would be subject to the same setbacks and height restrictions of a structure in that zone.
The proposed ordinance included would allow for the creation of columbariums in cemeteries. The ordinance has been reviewed by the City Attorney.
