CONSIDERATION OF AND ACTION ON
Ordinance 2026-14 Setting the Tax Rate and Levying a Tax Upon All Property Subject to Taxation Within the City of El Campo, Texas, for the Year 2026; Apportioning Said Levy Among the Various Funds and Items for Which Revenue Must Be Raised; Providing for the Collection of Taxes Therein Levied; Assessing Penalty and Interest for the Non-Payment of Such Taxes Within the Time Set; and Declaring an Effective Date
Included in the packet is Ordinance 2026-14 adopting the tax rate and levying a tax. As a reminder, a super majority (5 members) is required to adopt the tax rate that supports the budget. The proposed tax rate is $0.49144, a 1.66 cent tax increase from the No-New-Revenue Rate.
Based on the Tax Rate of $0.49144:
THIS TAX RATE WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE.
THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 1.66 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $8.03.
Financial Impact: The tax rate will support the budget adopted in the previous item.
Staff recommends the following required motion " I motion to approve the tax rate of $0.49144.THIS TAX RATE WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE. THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 1.66 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $8.03. via Ordinance 2026-14"
