Subject:

Library Cleaning - Discuss Options for Cleaning

Prepared By:
Brittany Moeller

Background of Issue:

Our current cleaning company has decided to no longer continue cleaning the library and will be done at the end of October. There are several options for us to discuss in terms of hiring someone new, which are:

1. Hire an individual outright

2. Hire an individual as an employee of the city

3. Hire a cleaning company

Below is some information from our Finance Officer on those options:

"If the person is hired as a city employee and is paid by the city, then no they don't need to be bonded/insured.  They would be covered under the city insurance if they were a city employee.

If you want to hire an individual employee, then it needs to go thru the proper channels with HR.  They will need a job description, advertise the opening, etc. If not a city employee, they would need to be bonded/insured and have a business license with the state.

As far as a business/company, as long as it stays under $50,000/year then you are ok.  I would suggest getting at least 2 quotes though."

We would need to bring forth a job description to city council before moving forward with advertising. I have attached a sample advertisement for review. This is not an official advertisement, as it would need to go through council first, but this will help give a general idea of what we are looking for. It can be adjusted based on the option chosen.
