The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) has awarded the City of Bradenton funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) for the Southwest Ward 5 Flood Risk Reduction Project, Project No. 4734-079-R, Agreement No. H1543. The project is intended to reduce recurring flooding in the area generally bounded by 23rd Avenue West, 26th Avenue West, 5th Street West, and 9th Street West.
The agreement is for Phase I of the project and includes surveying, engineering and design, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, permitting, plans preparation, and bidding. Upon completion of Phase I, the City will submit the required design and supporting documentation to FDEM and FEMA for consideration of Phase II construction funding. The remainder of the design is funded through an FY26 State Appropriation. No construction is authorized under the current agreement.
The Phase I project budget is $217,350.00, consisting of $163,012.50 in federal HMGP funding and a $54,337.50 City match.
