SUBJECT:

Certificate of Appropriateness - PLN-COA-26-0003: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior renovations including but not limited to the installation of new windows, doors, and elevator shaft; for property located at 1009 4th Avenue West (Parcel ID 3293100109) in the T6 (Urban Core) zoning district and located in the Downtown Historic Overlay District and listed on the State Master Site File. Application filed by Kyle Huggins of NDC Construction and Jeff Burton of the Bradenton Community Redevelopment Agency.

 
SUGGESTED ACTION:

Motion to either approve or deny the Certificate of Appropriateness to exterior building renovations at 1009 4th Avenue West. If the action is for approval, staff recommends the following stipulations for approval:

  1. All windows frames and trims shall be aluminum; black or dark bronze in color.
  2. Window grid patterns shall match existing.
  3. All glass (doors and windows) shall be clear and not tinted or reflected.
  4. All street facing doors, excluding Fire Riser Room, shall be full length glass with black or dark bronze trim and framing.
  5. All doors on the south façade and those for the Fire Riser Room shall be solid hollow metal painted to match the color of the buildings stucco. Should the stucco color change, the doors must continue to be the same color as the stucco.
  6. All efforts must be made to recycle existing brick proposed to be removed for openings into the façade where there are proposed enclosures.
  7. New exterior lighting fixtures to be reviewed and administratively approved by city staff by the issuance of a Certificate of Appropriateness.

EXPLANATION:

The applicants, Kyle Huggins of NDC Construction Co., and Jeff Burton of the Bradenton Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), are requesting Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) approval to allow for various exterior renovations to occur to the existing building located at 1009 4th Avenue West., which is in the Historic Downtown Overlay District and is listed on the Florida Master Site File, which is the State’s official inventory of historical and cultural resources.

 

Proposed renovations include the installation of new doors and windows, elevator shaft, fire riser room and the removal of upper level exterior doors.
