Consider request from Fire & Emergency Services to purchase 57 Lifepak 35 Cardiac Monitors from Stryker Sales, LLC, and trade-in 57 Zoll X Series Cardiac Monitors, for a total cost of $2,479,656.54.
Cardiac Monitors are one of the most critical pieces of medical equipment utilized by Fire & Emergency Services. Cardiac monitors are used to take vitals, perform EKGs, deliver defibrillation (electric shocks), and continuously monitor heart rhythms during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). In 2025, Fire & ES responded to 24,529 medical calls with nearly 3,000 of those being cardiac-related primary impressions.
The Department's current monitors have older technology and have reached the end of their 8-10 year recommended service life, with almost all of them being at the 10-year mark.
Transitioning to Stryker Lifepak 35 Cardiac Monitors has several benefits including:
- Ability to analyze heart rhythms during ongoing CPR chest compressions, reducing pauses and potentially improving patient survival rates by 10-20% compared to standard monitors requiring CPR stops for rhythm checks.
- Dedicated pediatric AED mode ensuring safer and more accurate defibrillation for children.
- Live view 12/15-lead providing a graphical representation of the ECG to help diagnose STEMIs (heart attacks).
- WiFi and Bluetooth allowing real-time data streaming to hospitals, allowing seamless EMS-to-hospital coordination.
The monitors are being purchased utilizing Sourcewell contract 041823. However, Fire & ES was able to negotiate an additional $271,000 in savings.
As part of the purchase, Stryker has agreed to provide a $10,000 trade-in credit on the 57 end-of-life Zoll Monitors. A surplus form with the Zoll monitors is included.
This purchase is funded with the reallocation of SPLOST 2024 dollars.
