Resolution 2026-82 Authorizing Transfer of City Owned IPad
In 2011, the City Council approved the purchase of iPads for the Mayor, City Council members, and the City Attorney to improve efficiency, reduce paper usage, and facilitate electronic access to meeting materials. The attached memorandum documents the original authorization and assignment of the devices.
The iPad assigned to the City Attorney has been used in support of City business throughout his years of service to the City. The City's Information and Technology Policy identifies computers and related technology equipment as City property and establishes the City's authority over City-issued devices and data.
The City Attorney is retiring after many years of dedicated service to the City of Chatfield. The device in question is now an older model with limited practical value to the City. Staff believes the administrative time and resources associated with recovering, reconfiguring, storing, or disposing of the device likely exceed its remaining value.
The proposed resolution would authorize transfer of ownership of the device to Fred Suhler as a gesture of appreciation and recognition of his long-standing service to the community.
Prior to transfer, staff will ensure:
• All City records have been retained or transferred as appropriate;
• All City accounts, passwords, and access credentials have been removed;
• No City data remains on the device; and
• The transfer complies with applicable records retention and data practices requirements.
The device is an aging asset with minimal remaining value. Staff does not anticipate any appreciable financial impact to the City from the transfer.
