I move to approve the street closure of North Curry Street from West Robinson to West Washington Street, with the following conditions:
- A refundable $250 deposit must be made by the applicant, from which money may be drawn to pay for any overtime wages incurred by the Public Works Department staff in the event the streets cannot be reopened at 9 PM because the event does not conclude within the approved timeframe.
- The applicant must provide verification of notice to all residents and tenants affected by the street closure to the Community and Economic Development Department by not later than October 9, 2026.
March 21, 2024 (Item 14B) - The Board of Supervisors (“Board”) approved a special event policy that included policies regarding street closures.
At its meeting of March 21, 2024, the Board approved a policy relative to special events. This policy included a menu of streets that the Carson City Public Works Director has the authority to close for special events. The policy further states that requests for street closures that are not on the menu must come before the Board.
Community Development has received an application for the Nevada State Museum’s Trunk or Treat Block Party event on October 23, 2026, from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM. This event is proposed to be a free, family-friendly event that will include trick-or-treating from vehicles. The event organizer anticipates that the event will have 2,500 attendees.
The applicant is requesting to close North Curry Street from West Robinson to West Washington Street between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM to allow time for vehicles to set up, and in the interest of public safety.
The requested closure of North Curry Street is not included on the menu of roads the Public Works Director may close. The requested closure is two blocks long, extending from West Robinson to West Washington Street.
Community Development staff has requested that verification of notice to all residents and tenants affected by the street closure be provided to the department by October 9, 2026.
Redevelopment Fund, Event Street Closures Account, 6037510-500549
If approved, Redevelopment will reimburse Streets for the cost of personnel, vehicles, and any other necessary equipment for the setup and removal of barriers and equipment, and to provide traffic control. This closure should fit within the current year budget of $50,000 for Fiscal Year FY 2027.
1. Deny the request to close the street.
2. Approve the request to close the street subject to different conditions.
3. Provide alternative direction.
