I move to approve the purchase authority as requested.
May 21, 2026 (Item 17.A) The Board of Supervisors approved the Final Budget for FY 2027, including the Capital Improvement Vehicle Replacement Program.
The Carson City Landfill is currently operating an Aljon 500, which was purchased in 2012. The compactor was completely rebuilt in 2020 with 11,000-plus hours. The Aljon is now 14 years old, has over 20,000 combined hours, and is budgeted for FY 26/27 replacement.
Within the past few months, Landfill staff have visited two different landfills operating the TANA 555 compactor, as well as multiple meetings with the TANA team. During those visits, city staff were able to operate the equipment and ask about the pros and cons of the machine. TANA guarantees better compaction and better fuel consumption, which was supported by data. City staff has completed its due diligence on the research and the benefits of the TANA compactor and feels it will better serve our current landfill application.
TANA has offered an 18% discount on the compactor base machine and 10% for the option pricing because the City is a member of the Florida Sheriff’s Association Cooperative Purchasing Program.
