Adoption of a Resolution authorizing the City of Buda to join the Hill Country Mayors Alliance and authorizing the Mayor to participate in the Alliance (City Manager Micah Grau)
Approval would authorize the City of Buda to formally join the Alliance of Hill Country Mayors.
The Alliance exists to promote communication, cooperation, and unified advocacy among the mayors of Texas Hill Country municipalities on matters of regional concern, including water resources, infrastructure, transportation, public safety, economic development, agriculture, preservation of community character, and state and federal public policy affecting Hill Country communities.
Membership belongs to the office of mayor, not to the individual. When a member leaves office, the successor mayor succeeds to the membership unless the successor declines in writing within sixty days of taking office. A mayor who leaves office ceases to be a member on the date the successor is sworn in. A member may designate in writing a mayor pro tem or other member of that city's governing body to attend and vote at a meeting in the member's absence. A designee has the rights of the member for that meeting only.
The Hill Country Mayor's Alliance is a new organization formed by area Mayor. The group plans to share information and seek regional solutions. The by-laws require a 2/3 majority for supporting initiatives by its membership.
The Board of Directors shall set annual dues, if any, and the due date. A member whose dues remain unpaid ninety days after the due date loses the right to vote until the dues are paid. The Board may waive or reduce dues for a member for good cause. The dues for FY2027 are $300.
Pros: provides an additional regional group to collaborate with.
Cons: none.
The City Council may elect not to be a part of this organization.
