RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the City Manager to sign the Torch Relay Agreement with LA28 to host the Olympic Torch Relay.
STRATEGIC PLAN:
BACKGROUND:
Bozeman has been invited to be a host city for the Olympic Torch Relay as part of the 2028 Olympic Games. For the first time, the Olympic Flame will make its way across all 50 states, showcasing the cultural and civic diversity that makes our nation unique, before arriving in Los Angeles at the Opening Ceremony on July 14, 2028. The City agrees to participate in, provide, or work with partners to provide planning, advice, promotion, permitting, and operational support services including establishing a Community Task Force, staging of the Relay and related events, facilities, ensuring emergency medical services, sanitation and waste management, street closures, traffic and parking management, and safety and security. If Bozeman is the final city of the Relay Day, a cauldron lighting event will be held which may require staging, sound and lighting systems, event infrastructure (bathrooms, fencing, etc.), security, cleaning and waste management.
